Trainers

Positif Politics can call upon a team of trainers who are able to deliver
very bespoke and informed sessions to a variety of training audiences. These
are made up of Positif Politics employees; external consultants whom we
engage regularly; and also other policy or legal experts whom we work with
to provide the best intelligence and training to those attending our courses.
Core Training Team
Daran Hill leads the training team. He is an accomplished trainer and has extensive knowledge of the Government of Wales Act and the Assembly's resulting new legislative powers. He has delivered training, information and insight into political processes to a variety of audiences: in-house to clients; to paid seminars; and in mass and personalized training environments. He is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Susan Bowen is the Training and Event Co-Ordinator at Positif Politics, and takes a particular responsibility for supporting our work delivering training events and conferences with a political edge. She supports and plans all aspects of our growing training programme.
External Consultant Huw Edwards works regularly with Positif Politics on a variety of courses and modules. He is an independent trainer and consultant specialising in understanding parliament, devolution and public policy. He is an Associate Lecturer of the National School of Government, the former civil service college and has also worked as training consultant for ModernGov. He currently provides in-house training for the staff of the National Assembly for Wales. From 1997 to 2005 Huw was Member of Parliament for the Welsh constituency of Monmouth and a member of the House of Commons Welsh Affairs Select Committee.
External Consultant Gwilym Morris is a core trainer with Positif Politics, specialising in involvement and supporting communication with diverse audiences. He is a recognised expert in the field of inclusive campaigning and mobilizing diverse and powerful coalitions of individuals and organizations. A former member of the Strategic Advisory Board of the International Center for Excellence in e Democracy, he has particular experience of developing interactive and participatory campaign structures. Gwilym is a Director of The Pollen Shop and Pollination Campaigns and works closely with Positif Politics on a range of projects.
Specialist Trainers
Professor Stuart Cole works with Positif Politics on courses focusing on transport policy. He is now Professor of Transport, Wales Transport Research Centre, University of Glamorgan, he was its first Director from 2001 to 2006 following twelve years as the first Director of Transport Research and Consultancy (TRaC) at the University of North London (1989 - 2001). He was appointed a Specialist Advisor at the House of Commons in 1984, and has advised on twelve transport inquiries including the Committee's current inquiry into cross border transport. Professor Cole has worked with a range of companies and government bodies including the National Assembly for Wales and the Welsh Assembly Government. His primary areas of research are transport governance, transport economics, transport policy and urban and rural public transport issue and solutions. He is the author of a standard textbook Applied Transport Economics now in its third edition and is a regular radio and television broadcaster on the BBC and S4C. He is a fluent Welsh speaker. He is one of Wales' most respected transport experts and was described by the House of Commons Select Committee on Welsh Affairs as 'Mr Transport in Wales'.
Siobhan McClelland is as an External Consultant with Positif Politics and brings together the worlds of politics and health and social care and is an acknowledged expert in Welsh Health Policy. She trains with us on health on social care policy in Wales. Her expertise in health policy and economics and the politics of health has involved her in a range of projects with public, voluntary and private sector organisations and she is particularly well placed to offer unique insights into the ways in which Welsh health policy is made and implemented.
Marie Navarro is a specialist in public law, the new legal processes and the devolved powers of the National Assembly for Wales and WAG. Marie is a Research Associate at Cardiff Law School and the Chief Researcher and Editor to the Law School website Wales Legislation Online which sets out the powers of the National Assembly for Wales and of the Welsh Assembly Government since July 1999: http://wales-legislation.org.uk. She has a Master in Public International Law and European Law from the University of Amiens (France). She is working on an MPHIL entitled *The Evolution of Welsh Devolution*. She is an Associate Lecturer of the National School of Government, the former civil service college. She is also an independent trainer and legal consultant specialising in understanding devolution and public policy.
Emma Turner is a solicitor who practices solely in Education Law. She qualified in 1997 and is considered to be a leading lawyer in this field. Emma represents clients across the UK and works with a number of voluntary groups. Emma Turner succeeds because she always puts the interests of the child first, recognising that each case is unique. She seeks to support families in securing the best provision for their child's circumstances. She has advised a number of politicians on possible changes to legislation to make the process and support for children and their families simpler and stronger. Within the education law field, Emma Turner has acted in a number of high profile cases, many of which have been 'reported'. She has contributed to a number of television and radio broadcasts as a recognised expert.
